You don’t have to be too into cars to have heard of the Audi e-tron, but unless you’ve got your finger really on the pulse of what’s going on, you might have missed quite a few details. The Audi e-tron is the new electric-only SUV built by Audi, providing incredible performance and luxury details with a powerful electric battery. Since electric SUVs are the hot, new market for the auto industry, the e-tron is making waves as one of the most elegant and impressive models revealed so far, from any manufacturer.
What, exactly, has people so excited about it? Well, let’s dig into the details on the e-tron to see everything it has to offer, and I think you’ll understand pretty quickly. From its gorgeous and sophisticated interior to its powerful and long-lasting battery, everything about the e-tron is designed to impress. And if the idea of an electric vehicle from Audi has you excited, but you’re not one for SUVs, then stick around, and we’ll talk a little bit about the upcoming 2021 Audi e-tron GT.
Simple and Efficient Charging
First of all, to answer the question that’s probably in the back of your head: yes, it is “e-tron,” not “e-Tron,” or “E-tron;” they’re both lower case. Now that we have that out of the way let’s talk a bit about the battery system in this all-electric SUV and how well it works. I’ll tell you this right from the start: it’s very impressive and is one of the primary reasons a lot of people are looking at the Audi e-tron as their next vehicle purchase.
As I said, this is an all-electric option – no internal combustion here, it’s not a hybrid; the entire power system runs on electric. That means you’ll need to charge it, as you do with any electric vehicle, and the Audi e-tron is made to make charging as quick and easy as possible. For one thing, it uses a 150 kW DC charging system that is designed for fast charging. You can charge it at one of more than 16,000 charging stations across the US, or charge it at your home or business by purchasing a charging station, available through Amazon.
Just a 10-minute charge at a high-speed public charging station is enough to get you 54 miles of range on the e-tron. With a full charge, the e-tron gets an estimated 204 miles of total range before you’ll need to charge it again. That means you can go to work and back or run some quick errands around town with just a fast charge at a station. And on a long road trip or if you have a more robust commute, a full charge will take care of everything you need.
Powerful Performance
This may be an electric SUV, but it’s an Audi first and foremost. That means that performance was at the forefront in its design and the technology packed into it. And with that in mind, the Audi e-tron definitely won’t let you down, with a next-generation Quattro all-wheel drive system that uses electric motors on each axle.
The e-tron can go from 0 to 60 in just 5.5 seconds, and the electric engine is able to produce up to 402 hp, with a towing capacity of up to 4,000 lbs. So no matter what you’re looking to do with the e-tron, it can handle it. With enough towing for a small trailer or camper, and the power to handle any road trip, the e-tron is incredibly fun to drive and works well for whatever you need.
There’s also an air suspension on the e-tron that ensures it is not only a lot of fun to drive, but that it offers a smooth and comfortable ride in the roughest conditions. This suspension system includes a terrain management feature with five different drive modes for you to choose from, including off-road. You might not think “Audi” when someone talks about an off-road SUV, but the e-tron will definitely be able to keep up with a lot of other vehicles out there and provide sophistication you won’t find on them.
Cutting Edge Technology
Inside the Audi e-tron, you’ll find an incredible combination of technology and luxury. There’s a stunning, 10-inch infotainment display that is perfect for controlling navigation, entertainment, and everything else you need while on the road. This includes incredibly advanced touch response technology and features integration with Amazon Alexa, so you can easily control your entertainment and much more through compatible devices.
The virtual cockpit design features an HD digital instrument panel with full-color graphics, which you can customize to provide you with all of the information you need. This includes your trip mileage and battery level, navigation information, and much more. And the smartphone integration in the Infotainment system means you can easily access information from your phone on the e-tron’s display.
Connectivity with the myAudi app lets you keep track of information about your vehicle on your phone, fully integrating your vehicle into your daily life. You can plan your route ahead of time on your phone and have it automatically apply to your vehicle’s navigation system, plan out your charging schedule to make sure you keep your e-tron running, and even monitor the climate in your vehicle remotely. Yeah, you can active the heating and cooling through your phone, so your e-tron is the perfect temperature before you get in.
Trims and Options
There are two trims available for the Audi e-tron, starting with the Premium Plus. This model features incredible safety features, including the Audi pre sense assist technology and a top view camera with a virtual 3D display of the area around your vehicle. It has matrix-design LED headlights, a B&O 3D premium sound system, and heated and ventilated seats.
You can also choose the Prestige trim, which has everything you’ll find on the Premium Plus and a bit more. The Prestige includes a driver assistance package, a head-up display that provides you with information projected onto the windshield, and power door closers. You also get a massage function in the front seats, and individual contour seats with Valcona leather for an unbelievably luxurious driving experience.
The 2021 Audi e-tron GT
If SUVs aren’t your thing, but you’re interested in an all-electric Audi vehicle, then keep the upcoming 2021 e-tron GT on your radar. The e-tron GT is a gorgeous, four-door performance sedan that was developed alongside the Porsche Taycan and shares its cutting-edge 800-volt architecture. This allows for incredibly fast charging between uses and helps provide you with unbelievable performance.
Although there is not a ton of specific information available just yet about the e-tron GT, it’s been revealed that it will have an electric motor on each axle to create all-wheel drive and deliver a combined 509 hp. This is the same Quattro system that the Audi e-tron features, so no matter which model you choose, it will offer an incredible driving experience. The early tests indicate the Audi e-tron GT will be able to go from 0 to 60 in just 3.5 seconds, and it will have a top speed of over 124 mph.
However you look at it, Audi has made a name for itself already in the electric vehicle market, and there are more good things to come. Keep checking back for more information about new models and official specs on the e-tron GT when they’re revealed.
