Upcoming Performance Cars To Get Excited About

With SUVs becoming more popular each year, cars almost seem passé. In fact, many brands have shifted their focus to SUV exclusivity. However, we’re not going to discuss the popularity of the SUV class. I’m here to discuss some of the performance-oriented cars that are either debuting soon or already turning heads. These cars are made for bold and daring drivers, the type who favors performance and rapid acceleration over economy and pragmatism. From old veterans to exciting newcomers, these vehicles offer both excitement and acceleration for those who seek them.

2027 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport

If there ever were a car that helped define performance, it would be the Chevy Corvette. It’s been in production since the 1950s and helped establish the brand’s reputation for performance-oriented vehicles. The Chevy Corvette Grand Sport is set to carry on this fabled legacy and take it into the fast lane. The Grand Sport features an exterior design that immediately catches the attention. Bold color schemes are joined by an intimidating front end.

The Corvette Grand Sport features performance that any potential race car driver will love. I know you’re here for performance, and the Corvette Grand Sport’s supercharged engine does not disappoint: a 6.7L V8 capable of 535 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Magnetic Selective Drive Control 4.0 provides instant damping adjustments based on speed and road conditions. Available performance packages further unlock the new Corvette’s potential and make it track-ready.

2027 Toyota GR GT

Domestic brands like Ford and Chevy were certainly influential during the golden age of the muscle car. However, high performance is not limited to vehicles produced stateside. One of the most innovative and exciting models is coming to us from Toyota. The 2027 Toyota GR GT will offer a unique performance-oriented powertrain–one that sees hybrid technology becoming a part of the equation. The merging of a twin-turbocharged V8 and a hybrid engine is set to push performance to new heights.

The GR GT is rear-wheel drive, like other classic Toyota sports cars, such as the Supra and the original Celica. A hybrid electric motor and a 4.0L V8 combine to produce an astounding 641 hp. This goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission for optimum performance. Ceramic brakes and a double-wishbone suspension provide sleek and agile handling.

2026 Hyundai IONIQ 6 N

Hyundai has established a reputation as a commuter-friendly brand. It produces affordable, reliable vehicles, protected by the industry’s best warranty coverage. However, Hyundai is just as capable at crafting models that deliver top-notch performance.

The IONIQ 6 N harnesses the power of electricity. In fact, the EV offers more track-ready capability than some of its gas-fueled counterparts. An 84 kWh dual-motor setup delivers 601 hp to all four wheels. When N Grid Boost is engaged, Hyundai’s supercharged EV unleashes 641 hp for ten seconds, enabling it to reach 60 mph in a mere 3.2 seconds. With N Torque, drivers can adjust the EV’s torque to suit their driving style. Combined with a sleek design and a stylish interior, driving one is a truly thrilling experience.

2027 Porsche 718 EV

Porsche has always epitomized luxury and performance. Information on the upcoming 718 EV is somewhat limited, but rumors of its cancellation seem exaggerated, and the excitement about the German manufacturer going electric is certainly palpable. The 718 EV is expected to offer performance on par with its gas-powered siblings, with the regal opulence and sophistication of the brand. Single- and dual-motor configurations promise to deliver the performance drivers want, including the capability to go from 0-60 mph in approximately four seconds. Fast charging capability should enable drivers to get to the track and enjoy Porsche’s exceptional performance.

Successor of the Audi TT

We’re in an age where revivals of popular models often bring them back to life for new drivers to enjoy. Among the many models set to make a striking debut is the long-awaited successor to the Audi TT. The original Audi TT was discontinued in 2023, and buzz has been building about an all-electric successor called the Concept C. Many have been speculating that the new vehicle will share a platform with the Porsche 718 EV, sharing its all-electric performance and fast charging time. A digital gearbox may make shifting much more engaging and immersive. It would possibly be RWD, and/or offer Audi’s quattro AWD system for enhanced traction and handling.

2028 Toyota Celica

The GR GT isn’t the only exciting offering that Toyota is set to debut for performance-oriented drivers. The Toyota Celica, a popular sports car for many years, is set to return in 2028. With the Supra once again discontinued, the Celica is set to combine the best aspects of economy and performance, including capable AWD for enhanced performance and better road control, a hybrid powertrain with the potential to deliver up to 400 hp, and a lightweight design for fast acceleration and agile handling.

2028 Polestar 6

The intrigue about the Polestar 6 began in 2022 with the unveiling of the Polestar 02 concept car. The concept vehicle was exciting in its presentation and rather simple in its premise: a fully electric two-door roadster that combined a striking exterior with performance that exceeded expectations. The 2028 Polestar 6 sees the brand’s original concept fully realized. Equipped with a dual-motor setup and a long range between charges, the Polestar 6 will have the practical aspects of an EV with the type of performance usually reserved for supercharged V8 powertrains.

We’re talking 884 hp delivered through an electric dual-motor setup. A lightweight aluminum design provides even faster acceleration, and the capability to go from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.2 seconds. The Polestar 6 is expected to deliver 300 miles of range on a single charge for longer stints of enjoyment behind the wheel.

The Future Has Never Looked Better for Performance

For drivers who favor performance with what they drive, the future has never looked better. Not only are new variants of classics like the Corvette and Celica set to debut, but other models from Porsche, Hyundai, Audi, and Polestar are as well. A key aspect of many of these models is how they harness electricity. EVs are no longer just practical options. They now offer performance that’s on par with many supercharged gas-powered engines. Naturally, vehicles like the new Corvette still offer the supercharged V8s that made them famous. If these models are an indication of what the future holds, then we can all wait with eager anticipation for more options for those who live their lives in the fast lane.
