From the Beginning
Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant established the Chevrolet brand in 1911. However, the first truck was not launched until 1918. The Model 490 Light Delivery was meant to meet the increased demand for commercial vehicles following World War I. The design was simple and utilitarian, reflecting the practical necessities of the period in which it was manufactured. Chevy also introduced its first one-ton truck during this time. It offered a rolling chassis with an open cab and frame so drivers could customize it for their needs.
