2020 Chevy Impala: Outfitted for Comfort, Performance, and Convenience

Sedans are no longer just family cars, especially when perusing the specs of the new 2020 Chevy Impala. Fans of a little get-up-and-go will love the V-6 engine, tech-lovers will get excited for all the bells and whistles, and there’s plenty of comfort to be had with features like adjustable heated seats and a roomy interior. You get power and control with the newest Impala models, along with the luxury of modern conveniences.

The 2020 Chevy Impala starts out at $31,620 for the LT and ranges up to $37,595 for the Premiere with all the trimmings. Both models have plenty of standard features to give buyers the satisfaction of safety and style. If you’re looking for a comfortable sedan that leans toward pampering yourself, you may be impressed with what the new Impalas have in store. Let’s take a look at what Chevy has done to upgrade the Impala for 2020.

Performance

A silver 2020 Chevy Impala is shown from the side while driving under a city bridge during the day.

Looking under the hood will reveal a satisfying amount of power packed into this five-seat sedan. Buyers may be pleasantly surprised about the change in engine specs, because the 2.5-liter is a thing of the past. The Impala now comes standard with a 3.6L V6 engine for the LT and Premier, and both models rev up with 305 hp, have 264 lb-ft of torque, and variable valve timing. What does this mean for the average driver? It means you step on the gas and it responds with gusto. Even better, the Chevy Impala now comes with hill assist and a six-speed automatic transmission for a smooth driving experience.

Aside from the standard front-wheel drive, the 2020 Impala also comes with four-link rear suspension, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, and panic brake assist for a little extra peace of mind. Chevy adds on MacPherson front suspension, which features gas-charged struts and a stabilizer bar, and StabiliTrak, which is an electronic stability control system with additional traction control. StabiliTrak will keep you on the road as a driver-assist feature meant to help keep you on the road during emergency situations, like avoiding accidents in case the driver falls asleep.

Exterior Style and Fuel Economy

Chevy has upgraded the styling of the Impala for 2020 to give it a little more of an “athletic” look, an appearance to match the new engine boost. The Impala LT is outfitted with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Premier upgrades to 19-inch aluminum. Both models come standard with heated power outside mirrors to keep them clear of ice and fog, a real advantage in weather-prone climates. The Premier can be upgraded with the option of auto-dimming the driver’s side exterior mirror for easier night-time driving. Fuel economy for the two models is almost identical at 18 mpg in the city for the Premier, and 19 mpg for the LT; while highway is 28 mpg for both models. The gas tank will take you 518 miles on the highway if you’re cruising, great for those enthusiasts who enjoy long drives.

Interior Comfort, Convenience, and Safety

First and foremost, the 2020 Impala is armed with ten airbags throughout the interior, so you can bet on safety in an accident. The 2020 Impala has been awarded a 5-star overall rating for safety from the NHTSA, though some of the features only come with upgraded packages. In any model or package, drivers can rest easy with On-Star capability, the LATCH system for tethering child seats, rear cameras, and a theft-deterrent system. Some safety features come standard for the Premier, like forward collision alert and lane departure warning, and are not available for the LT. Other features, such as lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear park assist, and rear cross traffic alert are available standard for the Premiere and are options available for the LT.

If you love leather seats, the Premier has you covered as a standard feature (not available for the LT). Both models include leather-strapped steering wheels. Also featured only in the Premier is the adaptive cruise control, which electronically monitors traffic around you and adjusts the speed automatically. Both models come with Chevrolet Infotainment System with 8″ diagonal color touch-screen, but the Premier upgrades this to include navigation. For tech enthusiasts, the 2020 Impala has a nice line-up of modern features to please drivers and passengers alike. Chevy thought about the needs of the modern family by including 12-volt power outlets, 120-volt outlets (standard for Premier, optional for LT), making the vehicle 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and Bluetooth capable, installing a USB port for the audio system in the console along with a single-slot CD/MP3 player, and including a SiriusXM Radio trial subscription. Premier has one final upgrade with wireless charging included standard. The audio system is equipped with six speakers on the LT, and the Bose audio system is standard for the Premier.

Comfort is a plus with the 2020 Chevy Impala. The LT and Premier come standard with 8-way power driver seats, and the passenger seat can be powered for the Premier, too. For those travelers who can’t agree on climate control, the Impala has dual-zone automatic controls as a standard feature for all models. Heated driver and passenger seats are standard for the Premier, with the option available for the LT. Even nicer, a heated steering wheel is an available option for both models. An inside rearview auto-dimming mirror is optional for any model, again, to make night driving more comfortable. Need lumbar support? This powered feature comes standard for both driver and passenger seats in all models. Manual tilt and telescoping steering columns are standard all around, but you can upgrade to powered for the Premier.

Remote start, keyless open, and keyless start are all standard features for the Impala, which makes morning commutes easier if you can get the car warm and defrosted before you get on the road in winter. If you need to shop for awkwardly-sized items, the back seat has a 60/40 split-bench seat that folds down to accommodate your needs. The trunk has 18 square feet of space, large enough to hold those loads of bags for trips, athletic supplies, or big shopping trips. You also have the option of cargo nets, trunk organizer, and plenty of storage pockets on the interior. One thoughtful option from Chevy is to include the road emergency tool kit, in case you need to change a tire or need roadside assistance.

The 2020 Chevy Impala can accommodate all the needs of a whole family on the road, from pleasing the driver on performance and comfort, to making sure the kids stay busy in the back seat if they like technology. Everyone can charge their phones while driving, you can trust the safety of the vehicle with all the automated options and standard features, and you’ll have plenty of space to keep everything you need in the trunk. What’s not to love? A little luxury, a lot of power, and modern, too. The whole family will ride in style and comfort while you cruise the roadways with ease.
