What You Need to Know About Buying a Used Truck in Atlanta

Everywhere in America is seemingly designed for truck lovers––from the great outdoors to the long highways sprawling from coast to coast. With so many places in the States geared towards trucks, you wouldn’t think that one of the best places to own a truck would be Georgia. Believe it or not, the Peach State is home to a diverse mix of national parks, incredible rural areas, and a diverse variety of different terrain types to explore. So, if you’re the type of person that enjoys trucks and exploring the great outdoors, let us tell you a little bit about Georgia and some used trucks you can find to help you get around.

What’s In Georgia?

Georgia is truly an amazing mix of all things in the South and East Coast. As one of the oldest settled states in the nation’s history, Georgia is an amazing place for those who would like to enjoy a day visiting historic sites. Furthermore, Georgia is a state with a variety of natural locations to visit at every corner, so there truly isn’t a limit to the potential that can be found here. Some of these places include:

Atlanta is really one of the best places to visit if you’re looking for a more urban experience in the state. At that, it is a city you’re likely to stop at least a little bit during your time here because of all it has to offer. And since this is a big city, you are bound to find plenty of dealerships in the area to find your next new truck at.

As for locations to visit, Atlanta is a historic city with a diverse variety of different activities to participate in. Like many cities in the state, Atlanta is home to a diverse set of colonial-era locations and many museums. The Old Fourth Distillery and the Georgia Aquarium are two of the city’s most popular attractions. This also comes in addition to a vibrant nightlife and restaurants that make it clear that Atlanta is the food capital of the state. That said, most places in the city can be visited by metro; however, if you are looking to make any excursions to the rural areas of the state, then a pickup truck is the best choice to get you around Georgia.

Savannah, like Atlanta, is one of the peak urban centers in the state. If you’re looking for a more colonial feeling in a city, then this may be the one city in the state that holds more historical significance than Atlanta. Here you will find sites like the Davenport House Museum and the picturesque Wormsloe State Historic Site. Of course, that doesn’t mean that the city is only about historic sites, as Savannah is home to a lively nightlife with movie theaters and parks found throughout the city. Nonetheless, if you’re looking to commute from Atlanta to Savannah, a vehicle will be necessary if you’re looking for an easy trip; and there is no better choice than a truck to power through the long roads of the American South.

Why Buy Used?

While it may be tempting to buy a new truck, there are certainly a variety of benefits associated with buying a used truck. That isn’t to say that you shouldn’t buy a new truck; there are definitely a lot of strong points with buying a new one as well. However, if you’re a first-time truck buyer or just want a truck for recreational use to get you around the state, then buying a truck used may be more suitable for you.

Given that most used trucks will offer more than enough in performance to handle most recreational activities, this can make for the perfect balance of affordability for a more casual truck driver. Of course, whether or not you buy used or new, buying a truck is a must if you’re going to explore every inch of Georgia; nonetheless, here is a quick look at used truck models that are incredibly popular.

GMC Sierra 1500

The GMC Sierra is always a strong choice, being one of GMC’s leading pickup truck models since its debut in 1999. This might seem like a long time to be producing a pickup truck model, and with good reason: the GMC Sierra is incredibly convenient and versatile. With all of its available engines, the GMC Sierra as a model is incredibly powerful. This makes the model incredibly capable on its own, perfect for a balance of city life and rural roads.

Furthermore, the GMC Sierra goes past just being a recreational vehicle with great terrain performance and the likes; it is truly meant to be a fully-functional workstation. That is to say, the pickup truck is built with functional convenience in mind, with a multi-function tailgate in most cases to increase ease-of-use in the bed of the truck, and adaptive suspension so that the vehicle is smooth in every situation that it finds itself in.

All of this together, the GMC Sierra is a model that makes its name on being a convenient companion in a well-rounded manner, perfect for the Atlanta resident that wants to do a little bit of everything in the area.

Chevy Silverado 1500

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is much like its GMC cousin, in that it has borrowed a lot of its design from the latter. As such, the Chevy Silverado does excel in areas that the GMC Sierra also excels at, though the Chevy Silverado does have a few notable differences. Unlike the GMC Sierra in many cases, the Chevy Silverado has plenty of cubby spaces to increase storage and is generally more rugged than the GMC Sierra. On the other hand, the GMC Sierra does offer some features that are not found in many of the used Chevy Silverado on the market, most notably the lack of a multi-function tailgate that was only introduced in the 2021 model of the Silverado. Nonetheless, the Silverado is a tough truck that is very much suitable for the bumpy roads of rural Georgia.

Ram 1500

While the GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado are very similar overall, the Ram 1500 offers a very unique driving experience that differs greatly from that of the last two vehicles on the list. Generally speaking, the Ram 1500 is more versatile than even the Chevy Silverado. In other words, the Ram 1500 can utilize a far greater amount of torque than many of its competitors, effectively making difficult terrain conditions a thing of the past. That said, the Ram 1500 is far bulkier than its competition, which may be a turnoff for many first-time truck buyers, but if you’re looking for a powerful vehicle to reach the most remote areas of Georgia, then the Ram 1500 is a safe bet for you.

Which Will Be Yours?

As can be seen, Georgia is a state that is truly perfect for the truck lover: with its blend of natural wonders, the possibilities for exploration are endless. Whether it be rural adventuring in the Ram 1500 or a mix of the city and rural life in the GMC Sierra, a truck is a natural companion for people in the area. Nonetheless, if you’re looking to buy a used truck in Georgia, it’s important to keep in mind which models would be ideal for you. So, consider buying a used truck at a dealer near you.
