And the Newest Chevy EV Is…the Equinox! Here’s What You Need to Know About It

It’s been a favorite for years, especially for families, offering an abundance of space inside to handle both passengers and cargo and nimble handling to allow for a smooth and controlled ride. Yes, the Equinox is a top seller in the Chevy lineup, and as you drive past your local Chevrolet dealer, you’ll find that this model occupies a prominent spot on the lot. So, what would make the Equinox even better than it already is? Making it electric, of course! Chevy has recently announced a series of electric vehicles coming down the pipeline, and the Equinox is one of them.

About the Equinox EV

Following the fanfare of the unveiling of the newest Silverado 1500 EV, it would seem as though that would be enough excitement for the time being, but Chevy had other plans. Its commitment to an all-electric future is in motion, and the wheels are turning over at the Factory ZERO facility, with many new models being introduced as time goes on. It’s no surprise that the Equinox is among the first Chevy models to receive its electric upgrade, seeing as it’s one of the most beloved compact SUVs on the road. With its affordability and versatility, the Equinox is a confident pick to move forward into EV stardom, showcasing GM’s Ultium battery technology. The Ultium platform showcases pouch cell technology, which takes up less space and weighs less, positively impacting the vehicle’s performance and efficiency.

The Equinox EV will be available in two trim levels, a more basic LT model and a high-end RS model to appeal to a multitude of drivers. It’s to be expected that range will be substantial, just like other models in the Chevy EV lineup, including the Bolt EV and EUV, which showcase ranges around the 250-mile mark; however, we’ll know more once performance details are leaked. The Equinox joins others, including the Blazer, in the Chevy EV arsenal, propelling the Chevy brand ahead of much of its competition, with plans to unveil 30 new EVs worldwide by 2025. The expected release date for the Equinox EV is the fall of 2023.

Why Drivers Love the Equinox

The Equinox finds itself sitting high atop many lists, making it one of the most popular SUVs on the market. Drivers gravitate toward this particular model due to all of the features that can be enjoyed, including copious amounts of cargo space, modern styling, and outstanding fuel economy. Perfect for families who need more space, as well as a vehicle that is easy to maneuver, the Equinox continues to be a favorite, and with its reasonable price tag, how can you go wrong? Its current model showcases a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder, which allows it to get up to 31 mpg on the highway, and with all-wheel drive available, the Equinox is the perfect companion to have, especially during inclement weather.

Safety is also a big reason why the Equinox continues to be so popular, with many desirable features offered standard, including a Rear Vision Camera to see better behind you, as well as the Chevy Safety Assist suite of advanced safety features. From Front Pedestrian Braking to Lane Departure alerts, the Equinox is always watching out for you and your passengers. In addition to top safety features and an exciting and efficient performance, the Equinox offers incredible space inside, with up to 63.9 cu.ft. of cargo volume and configurable seating to maximize its interior. Folding 60/40 split-bench seats in the second row, hidden storage under the cargo floor, and an available hands-free power liftgate make the Equinox a highly sought-after option for many drivers.

With the electric model about to make its debut on dealership lots soon, the result could just mean increased popularity (if that’s even possible) of this beloved Chevy staple. In addition to all of its benefits, including an affordable sticker price and everything we mentioned above, the Equinox is backed by the legendary and well-respected Chevrolet name. This means more value for the money, increased reliability, and peace of mind that can only come from a Chevy.

Other Chevy EVs

Like we mentioned before, Chevy has a commitment to the future, with a goal to unveil a number of EVs to revolutionize the way we travel, making our journeys cleaner and more sustainable. The brand has two EVs out already, the popular Bolt EV, which showcases favorable range, a spacious interior, and compact stature, perfect for optimal maneuverability. Those seeking a larger version of the Bolt EV can opt for the Bolt EUV, which provides even more space inside, as well as cutting-edge tech in certain trims, including Chevy Super Cruise, which allows for semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

We also mentioned the big reveal of the Silverado EV, which will grace dealership lots in the spring of 2023. Offering an unmatched range of 400 miles on a single charge, plus 10,000 lbs of towing ability, the Silverado EV will undoubtedly be a staple on the jobsite and beyond. In addition to the Silverado EV and the Equinox, the Blazer is set to receive its electric upgrade next year as well. The Blazer has been a crowd favorite since the late ’60s, and despite a brief hiatus in the new millennium, the Blazer came back strong in 2019. It’s an exciting future for Chevrolet, and we can expect to see even more EVs coming to the surface in the upcoming years.

Why Drive an Electric Vehicle?

With all of the announcements recently about EVs, you may be wondering why now? Why prioritize EVs so much, and what are the benefits that can be expected out of driving one? Well, the future of our planet rests upon more sustainable manufacturing processes, as well as fewer emissions and cleaner practices in virtually all facets of life. Preserving the integrity of our planet and continuing to keep it safe and thriving for generations has never been more important.

Drivers also benefit greatly from EVs, as they’re able to enjoy undeniably exceptional efficiency and lower maintenance costs to keep their vehicles operating in peak condition. Since EVs inherently have fewer moving parts, as opposed to traditional engines, the cost to maintain this type of technology is significantly lower, which is a big draw for many.

Additionally, depending on where you live, there may be chances to take advantage of tax credits and incentives, as well as reduced registration and insurance costs when driving an EV. Finally, with many automakers, including Chevy, unveiling primo options in their lineup, infused with electric power, the popularity of these vehicles is steadily increasing as more desirable models are being introduced to the industry.

Welcoming the Equinox Into the EV Family

From the Tesla Model 3 to the Ford Mustang Mach-E, there seem to be more EVs circulating in the industry than ever before. It just makes sense for Chevy to offer one of its top performers up to the EV gods to load it up with even more capabilities, allowing it to offer stellar performance, combined with its already impressive reputation. We’re in need of more electric offerings, and having a compact SUV in the lineup from one of the world’s most respected brands is going to give many drivers more of a choice when it comes to shopping for their next vehicle. If you thought that EVs were just a passing phase, think again. In a time when we need reusable resources, sustainability, and cleaner manufacturing processes, Chevy and others are looking to shape the industry and the world as we know it to provide a better future for our legacies.
