Cruise by your local Jeep dealer, and you’ll probably notice that Jeep tends to attract a certain kind of driver, the nature-loving sort. Sure, you see plenty of Jeeps tackling the streets of concrete jungles or navigating the evening commute, but when the day’s work is done, Jeep drivers tend to have other plans. You see, while some people’s idea of fun might be to kick back and relax, Jeep drivers go out of their way to seek adventure in far-flung places. It’s a kind of rough-and-tumble fun that only a brand like Jeep could deliver.
Jeep vehicles are like wild animals, and while you can domesticate them to a point, they thrive in the forest, the mountains, and the desert. Give them mud, rivers, and sandy terrain, and let them rip. Nothing feels better for an avid adventurer than to experience mother nature from behind the wheel of their Jeep.
At its heart, Jeep is a brand for nature lovers and thrill seekers. That is why the automaker has made it a point to create some of the most capable eco-friendly vehicles on the road, the Wrangler 4xe and the Jeep Cherokee 4xe. These hybrids are more than just another vehicle. Jeep’s hybrids allow drivers to have all the off-road adventures they want while lessening their overall environmental impact.
So, if you’re green-hearted and looking for a friendly but more than capable partner for your next outing, Jeep is ready to go when you are. Check out all the ways Jeep can help you explore the world you love while helping to preserve it for future generations to enjoy.
The Wrangler 4xe
Jeep kicked off its commitment to lowering carbon emissions by steering its production toward the creation of hybrid and soon fully electric models. One of the first models to be introduced on the American market was the Wrangler 4xe in 2021. Jeep said they plan to roll out a fully electric version of the iconic Wrangler by 2025, which is exciting, to say the least. But until that time, the Wrangler 4xe hybrid is ready to help drivers get where they need to go with fewer carbon emissions and more power than ever before.
The Wrangler seemed like a logical choice for an electric upgrade, considering its popularity among nature lovers and off-roaders. Stellantis reported that in 2022, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe was America’s best-selling plug-in. 1 in 4 Jeeps sold during that year was a hybrid model, proving that an eco-friendly Wrangler was popular with consumers.
For 2023, the hybrid Wrangler 4xe continued to impress drivers with its extensive 370-mile range. Running on the battery alone, the Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) can take drivers upwards of 21 miles on a single charge. The impressive model offered drivers 375 hp plus 470lb-ft of torque for a winning combination of power and performance. The electric motor added to the Wrangler 4xe’s rock-crawling performance speed. It’s also worth noting that the Wrangler 4xe was the first PHEV to offer front and rear locking differentials for optimal off-road performance.
The Wrangler 4xe’s advanced Esave mode helps drivers save battery charge and instead lets the 2.0L engine take over. Or vice versa. Change up the system to prioritize battery use over the engine. The options help drivers get the best driving experience for their needs. Jeep added Regenerative Braking technology to their Wrangler 4xe, so while braking, the battery can charge. The flexibility of the Wrangler 4xe PHEV makes it the perfect hybrid for the backwoods, where things can quickly change. You need a vehicle that can adapt when it needs to.
The Cherokee 4xe
While the Wrangler is generally thought of as a vehicle for outdoor enthusiasts, adventures, and solo drivers, the Grand Cherokee usually leans more towards families. But that doesn’t mean it’s undercooked. When you’ve got an active family, it can feel hard to enjoy the outdoors while consuming less. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe gets families into nature while lowering their carbon footprint. In the Grand Cherokee 4xe, it’s fun to load up everyone and go exploring.
The versatility of the Grand Cherokee 4xe allows it to seamlessly blend in downtown and out of town. Take your next ride past the pavement thanks to the Grand Cherokee 4xe’s advanced design, which includes a water-sealed battery pack and a Quadra-Trac 4×4 system.
Drivers can adjust their vehicle’s admissions by switching between Electric, Hybrid, or Esave with just the turn of a dial.
The Grand Cherokee 4xe helps drivers and their families get deep into nature without having to worry about when and how they will be able to fuel up. The 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe is capable of a combined 470 driving range, while riding on the battery alone will take you an estimated 25 miles. This makes it easy to head down a road less traveled without worrying about how you’ll get back.
Jeep’s commitment to the environment and its dedication to going green can be seen in the Grand Cherokee’s thoughtful design and green technology that make it easy to introduce the beauty of nature to your growing family.
Charging Up On The Trail
Jeep wants to encourage its drivers to make the change from gas-powered to electric. One way to do this is to make charging up convenient. Besides the constantly growing number of public charging stations that are popping up nationwide, Jeep has taken things a step further with solar-powered charging stations.
The Jeep Brand stations can be found near key popular off-roading trails. This adds to the ease of making the transition to hybrid. Now, Jeep can take drivers further into the wild places they crave with fewer carbon emissions than before. The charging stations began showing up in 2021 thanks to Jeep’s partnership with Electrify America, an EV charging company. The Level 2 charging stations were placed at the trailhead of popular destinations in Moab, Utah, plus Big Bear and Rubicon Trail in Pollock Pines, both of which are in California. Jeep knows that its drivers are nature lovers and adventure seekers. But they also know that getting a power boost for a battery can be a challenge when you’re in the middle of nowhere. To help combat this obstacle, Jeep plans to add additional charging stations to its 62 Badge of Honor trailheads across the USA. Jeep drivers can find such trails using the company’s app-based program.
Come Along For The Ride
The easy access to the chargers helps Jeep encourage enthusiastic drivers to make the change and go green with one of their favorite brands. As Jeep continues its future move to green energy and eco-friendly practices, it wants drivers to get on board and come along for the ride.
Though there isn’t a fully electric Jeep available on the American market yet, we’re hopeful to see one in the near future. Until then, Jeep is doing its best to create some of the best PHEV vehicles for outdoor enthusiasts. The ease of accessing charging for batteries in remote locations means you can go green without having to give up your love of exploring unknown places. With Jeep’s hybrids, it’s, in fact, now easier than ever to go further on less. Less gas, fewer emissions.
It’s easy to see why nature lovers love Jeep. The brand started out as a beast that could take drivers where other vehicles wouldn’t dare. Since then, Jeep has remained committed to delivering the best and most advanced vehicles to its drivers, but not at the expense of a planet they love. Instead, they went to the drawing board and created an advanced PHEV that transformed the green car market and showed drivers what electric vehicles are capable of. We can only imagine the power a fully electric Jeep will unleash, and frankly, we can’t wait to find out.
