If you’re a Chevy fan, then you’ve just started enjoying all of the amenities and capabilities that the 2018 crop of Silverado pickup trucks provide to customers. Ultimately, after only several minutes behind the wheel, you’ll quickly realize that these are some of the most impressive offerings in the brand’s history. As a result, you may assume that engineers are content with their product and aren’t willing to do a whole lot to improve or revise the nameplate every year. After all, why fix it if it isn’t broke?
Of course, that sentiment is also a bit misguided. After all, Chevy has always been known for their innovation, and this sentiment will be in full display in the coming years. Recently, the brand revealed some details about their upcoming pickup trucks, providing customers with some clarity on the innovations that are coming around the corner. While you’ll admittedly have to wait several years for these vehicles to finally hit dealership lots, it’s still worth seeing what the rides have to offer ahead of time. Plus, it’s sort of fun to anticipate the release of these vehicles more than half-a-year ahead of time.
Below, we’ve explored a pair of upcoming Silverado variations that will surely revolutionize the entire industry. Take a look at what these various pickup trucks have to offer. That way, when you take a future trip to a Chevy dealer in Kentucky, you’ll already know what specific model you’re going to pursue…
2019 Silverado 1500
Customers shouldn’t expect more of the same when it comes to the upcoming 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500. Rather, the vehicle is all-new, as engineers drew inspiration from previous iterations of the pickup to help create one of the top variations of the nameplate. Furthermore, the brand also listened to their customers, using many of their suggestions as they designed their next pickup. All of these attributes were in full display when the brand unveiled the nameplate at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this month.
“Our owners’ passion for Chevrolet trucks is truly humbling,” said Alan Batey, the president of GM North America and the global head of Chevrolet. “Many of our owners depend on their trucks for work and play, personalize their trucks in astonishing ways and pass their loyalty for Chevy Trucks down from generation to generation.
“For the Chevy Truck Centennial, we wanted to recognize the customers who have made Chevrolet part of their lives, and have them help kick off the next 100 years of Chevy Trucks.”
If you’ve been a fan of Chevy’s vehicles, you’ll surely find that the 2018 version of the pickup draws on older versions of the Silverado. Cosmetically, customers will find that the brand was inspired by the Advance Design pickup trucks that were common in the 1950s, as well as the renowned C/K vehicles that were around back in the 1960s. Therefore, if you’re one who enjoys reminiscent of some of the nameplate’s older models, you’ll appreciate all of the throwback details included in this truck.
Of course, the brand also included several new innovations as they were creating their brand-new pickup truck. For instance, the brand installed a new alloy metal that was added to the “roll-formed, high-strength-steel bed floor.” This leads to a significantly more versatile ride, and it also helps reduce the weight of the vehicle (which helps optimize power specs and efficiency specs).
Best of all, customers will have an opportunity to personalize their new pickup truck. The brand will provide these customers with a wealth of options as they’re building their new ride thanks to the array of trim offerings. For instance, the incredible Silverado LT Trailboss version includes a number of functions that will boost off-roading prowess, including a unique two-inch suspension life.
While you’ll have to wait a while for this vehicle to hit dealership lots, customers can at least anticipate the unique offering in preparation.
Silverado 4500HD/5500HD
Unfortunately, customers will have to wait just as long for this hulking variation of the Silverado, but it sounds like the pickup truck will certainly be worth the wait. After all, seemingly no truck brand has ever delivered a pickup that has managed to crank out all of the power that the upcoming Silverado 4500HD and Silverado 5500HD will be able to provide to drivers. While we’re still awaiting full details, we know the nameplate will make its official debut at the upcoming Work Truck Show in Indianapolis in March. This specific event is considered to be North America’s “largest work truck event,” but it already sounds like the new Silverados will be the stars of the show.
“The Silverado 4500HD/5500HD trucks are the flagship of our full-line commercial truck portfolio and we’ve designed them to be among the best in the industry in maneuverability, serviceability, visibility, quietness and comfort, diesel fuel economy and more,” said Ed Peper, the U.S. vice president of General Motors Fleet. “At GM Fleet, we are determined to deliver on our three pillars: Great Products, Innovative Business Solutions and an Exceptional Customer Experience, and I’m confident that with these new trucks, we’ll exceed the expectations of not only our fleet customers but the drivers and upfitters as well.”
Fortunately, the brand has provided us with several details. We know the vehicles will be available in both regular and crew cab models, and they’ll also include two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive capabilities. Under the hood, owners will appreciate the inclusion of the Duramax diesel engines and Allison transmissions, which means these individuals can definitely expect an unmatched driving experience. Predictably, these vehicles will also be equipped with all of the top technology in the class, including 4g LTE Wi-Fi and OnStar computability.
Chevy has continually done an admirable job of assuring that their 2500 and 3500 versions of the Silverado are some of the best offerings in the entire class. However, at the end of the day, we’re confident that both the Silverado 4500HD and the 5500HD will be some of the top offerings in brand history.
