Julie Andrews sang of “raindrops on roses” and “whiskers on kittens” as a few of her favorite things. She was playing the real-life character of Maria Von Trapp in pre-World War II Austria, but I’m sure if the musical were set today, she would have added a few cars to that list. There are so many wonderful cars, trucks, and SUVs on sale today that it can be tough to pick one to purchase. You have to decide on the type of vehicle, the year of the vehicle, and even the color. It can be hard to figure out where to start. But first things first, it is important to recognize that the best deals these days will come from searching for used cars for sale. That’s right; a used car gives you the best value because you get more car for your money. But even knowing that the best deals come from used models, it can be challenging to pick which one is the best to purchase. So we have put together some verses for our own 2020 version of “Our Favorite Things,” and our version is about the top ten car models that can be found used. So without further ado, here is the list!
1. Ford Mustang
Ford recently announced that they will stop producing sedans and coupes to concentrate on SUVs, pickup trucks, and alternative energy vehicles. One of the only exceptions to the rule is the classic Ford Mustang. First introduced in 1964, the Mustang has been one of the most iconic muscle cars to come out of Detroit. The Mustang has such classic lines and is fun to drive that it inspired the great soul singer Wilson Pickett to sing a song about the car, “Mustang Sally.” Ford is still making Mustangs, and you can find out why these are so beloved by buying a used model today.
2. Jeep Cherokee
Do you love off-roading? Do you enjoy understated luxury? Do you need a vehicle that has space enough for your passengers and your cargo? If you answered “Yes” to each of these questions, then a used Jeep Cherokee might be the vehicle for you. Jeeps are some of the most unique vehicles on the road today, and this SUV, like all Jeeps, can go anywhere and do anything. It is a smaller version of the Grand Cherokee, but we love it for its maneuverability, versatility, and comfort.
3. BMW 3 Series
The folks at BMW have been putting out some of the best performance sedans and coupes for years now, but the one we always seem to go back to is the 3 Series. If you love speed and drivability, then look no further then a 3 Series BMW. They are as luxurious as a similarly priced Mercedes-Benz, but the similarities end there as the BMW will handle like no other car you’ve ever driven. The turning radius is tight, the suspension strong, and the pickup almost otherworldly. Best of all, BMW 3 Series coupes and sedans can be found on the used market for very reasonable prices. These are all more reasons to love the BMW 3 Series.
4. Ram 1500
“Ram tough” is not just a slogan; it is a way of life. The Ram 1500 is no exception. This powerful, sturdy, full-size pickup can handle your toughest loads and tow your heaviest trailers while providing you with a luxurious interior and comfortable ride that makes you almost forget you’re in a truck. Add to this to the classic lines of the Ram series, and you can see why this is one of our favorite vehicles on the used market.
5. Toyota Prius
Who likes wasting time pumping gas at a service station? Probably the same folks who love paying high gas prices in the first place. The Toyota Prius was the first successful hybrid car on the market, and it continues to blow people away. Aside from the excellent fuel economy, the folks at Toyota have given the Prius an aerodynamic, space-age look that has been turning heads since they first started showing up on the roads. If you want to save money on gas and have a fun time driving, then a used Prius is the way to go.
6. Lexus RX 350
Every luxury automaker has put out an SUV, but our favorite for providing the most features for the least amount of money is the Lexus RX 350. First of all, no other SUV has this one’s clean lines. Second, the amount of creature comforts and safety features on a used luxury SUV in this price range is simply unmatched. Finally, the RX 350 is built on a sedan frame, giving it a smoother ride than other SUVs that use a truck frame. While we wouldn’t recommend driving this off-road, if you are looking for a great ride on a long road trip, get a used RX 350.
7. Chevrolet Camaro
The Chevy Camaro is one of the only muscle cars to combine hot looks and great speed in an affordable package. The Camaro has evolved over the years, but it remains a real American icon. From its sharp front end to its sloping rear, the Camaro is built for speed. Best of all, you can find a used Chevy Camaro at an incredible price. The speed-to-dollar ratio here might be the best on the market.
8. Chevrolet Suburban
There are plenty of full-size, 3-row SUVs on the market. But, for our money, none can top the Chevy Suburban when it comes to size, versatility, and roominess. Most 3-row SUVs involve a compromise, deciding between transporting passengers or cargo, and if you need room for cargo, you have to put down the third or even second row of the vehicle. This is not the case with the Suburban, which can carry up to 8 passengers with a full load of cargo in the trunk. If you need a large SUV, then a used Suburban is the one you should consider first.
9. GMC Sierra 3500
Speaking of big, the GMC Sierra 3500 gives you the power to move anything and everything. This monster is what pickup trucks are all about. In addition, like other GMC trucks, its Crew Cab is built like a living room: spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. Riding in the Sierra 3500 makes doing work almost fun. Driving it is fun, and the fact you can find one used at a great price might be the most fun thing of all.
10. Nissan Rogue
There are plenty of compact crossover SUVs on the road today, and they are all wonderful rides. Combining the best features of an SUV with the convenience of a compact sedan, the crossover is an ideal choice for folks living in the city or with small families. One of our favorites is the Nissan Rogue. This is a sporty little SUV that has it all, with a roomy interior, easy to drive, and dependable. In addition, it has great trunk space for cargo, and if you need additional space, the rear seats easily fold down to increase the payload space. You can find a used Nissan Rogue at a great price.
