The New Honda Accord: A Glow-Up Or A Let Down?

Some cars don’t just have a history; they make history, changing the industry in profound ways. The Honda Accord is one of those vehicles and had an immediate impact on the automotive industry when it first rolled onto the scene nearly fifty years ago. Renowned for its reliability, performance, efficiency, and sleek styling, the Honda Accord has been one of the top-selling sedans for years. So far, things don’t seem to be changing––except for the latest Honda Accord’s grown-up glow-up. Visit your local Honda dealer, and you will see just what we mean.

The 2023 Honda Accord was completely redesigned, giving it a look that sets it apart from previous generations. Vehicles get makeovers all the time, but due to the Honda Accord’s success, this new look has received extra attention. For some, the new styling is welcome, presenting a more mature and upscale version of the beloved classic. Others, however, prefer past designs, showing their loyalty to generations of yore. So, the question would be: Is the 2023 Honda Accord worth the hype?

Where Are the “Boy Racer” Vibes?

The opinion on the newest Accord is somewhat split, with some asking why Honda changed it in the first place. Previous generations were designed with a sportier edge, sometimes referred to as “boy racer” styling. This slang wasn’t used with admiration but with irritation, as it often referred to a childish driver who focused too much on speed and flashy styling rather than safety. Of course, slang has a way of being turned on its head, which is the case here.

Speak with a Honda enthusiast, and you will learn that one of the things they appreciate the most about the Accord is its “boy racer” characteristics. With a focus on performance, Honda allows the average Joe to play out their grandest fantasies of being one of the Fast and Furious gang, letting them live life in the fast lane, so to speak. Previously, the Honda Accord was even offered with a manual transmission, a huge hit with many automotive fans. Unfortunately, the manual was dumped a few years back, which may have been the Accord’s first step into adulthood.

The exterior has been given an overhaul for 2023, with a smaller criss-cross patterned grille taking the place of the former slatted grille. Another noticeable change is the lower front fascia sporting a grille insert of its own, whereas the former model was solid with lights dug in on either side. The 2023 model has also been stretched a tad, showing a sort of overhang in the front, adding another dimension to its new look. Despite the changes, the new Accord is still very much the same at its center and has also amassed its own following of admirers.

The softer, cleaner approach taken with the 2023 model has garnered appreciation for its more modern and mature looks, presenting the Accord in a new light. It’s a new look that we appreciate, and we don’t seem to be alone. Many others are showing their approval of the new styling, a styling that seems to be ushering in a new era for Honda. More fuel-efficient options, snazzier technology, and fresh exterior and interior styling have signaled change.

For those who miss the sportier, carefree exterior of past models, don’t fret; the Honda Accord is still everything you love, just in new packaging. As for those who are jumping on the bandwagon for the all-new Honda Accord, we see you, and we are you, happily accepting the Honda Accord’s new duds. If you have joined in on the appreciation train, then let’s steam ahead and take a look at the other great offerings of the 2023 Honda Accord.

Interior Updates

The theme of the 2023 Honda Accord seems to be clean and sleek, which is evident when one takes a look at the refined styling of the Accord’s cabin. To create a streamlined look, designers used a center dash belt to hide essential but less attractive details. Driver and passenger air vents are camouflaged within the dash belt, fading away under the criss-cross mesh that graces the dash. Seating for up to five passengers is presented in a cohesive color scheme that allows the spacious cabin to feel cozy, peaceful, and luxurious.

Available premium features like a Bose sound system and a one-touch moonroof provide the opportunity to upgrade your ride your way. The large infotainment display sits in line with the center console, keeping the lines clean. A state-of-the-art head-up display provides important information directly on the driver’s side of the windshield, adding convenience without additional and messy gadgets.

Body-stabilizing front seats are another upgrade to this year’s model, adding extra support for those who spend a lot of time on the road. Lumbar support and pelvic support help reduce fatigue, and it is all draped in either cloth or leather upholstery. For the ultimate comfort, optional heating and ventilation for the seats keep you warm on cold days and help minimize discomfort on hot days. Noise dampening technology enhances the overall experience, creating a serene environment in all environments.

Performance AND Efficiency?

With more and more manufacturers focusing on efficiency, it should come as no surprise that the Accord is available in several hybrid trim options. The 2023 Accord offers the LX, EX, Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and the Touring trims. The LX and EX trims have a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine, while the other four trims come standard with a hybrid powertrain for improved performance and efficiency. The hybrid trims offer four drive modes, including EV and ECON modes, which allow the vehicle to prioritize efficiency.

The 2023 Accord is not overflowing with torque or horsepower, but the hybrid option does exert more than the traditional engine. Hybrid power has the added benefit of instant torque, which means quicker take-offs. Balancing the performance aspect is a powerful motor and battery set-up that allows the Accord to perform in an all-electric mode under certain circumstances. It is the best of both worlds, providing improved fuel efficiency and performance.

To help balance the power output, Honda’s engineers equipped the Accord with a Motion Management System that reads movement and helps sharpen the ride. The Motion Management System also improves traction, putting the engine’s output to good use. Sporty suspension equals a fun ride––maybe not as fun as past models with the manual transmission, but still fun.

Which Team Are You On?

Change can be difficult, but stagnation can be even worse, causing one to never grow, improve, or evolve. Without advancements, we might still be riding in a horse and buggy. This is exactly why we need manufacturers to continue creating new automotive masterpieces, masterpieces like the 2023 Honda Accord. Although some may feel the Accord was perfect the way it was, we believe that it can be even better and that it is even better.

Thanks to the hybrid drivetrain options, the Accord is on the road to being more fuel-efficient than ever before. Modern technologies and state-of-the-art safety features show Honda can keep up with the times. The new styling of the Accord is sure to appeal to new generations, gaining new admirers and growing the Honda fan club. After all, with such sleek and handsome styling, who wouldn’t want to drive away in the 2023 Honda Accord?
