Audi is one of the most prestigious and impressive luxury brands on the market, with a combination of sophistication and performance that puts a lot of other manufacturers to shame. That’s a big part of why a lot of people have been very excited about Audi’s serious investment in the Electric Vehicle (EV) market. While the original 201 Audi e-Tron is a gorgeous all-electric SUV, the all-new 2022 Audi e-Tron GT is a four-door electric sports car that delivers incredible power and performance in a sleek sedan design.
If you’re already jazzed about the e-Tron GT, then you probably know about pretty much everything it has to offer, but if not, then I’m here to help. Today, I’m going to take you through some of the major features of the e-Tron GT that have so many Audi fans excited to finally get a chance to take one of these beauties for a spin. From the incredible electric powertrain to the gorgeous interior and everything in between, you’ll soon understand why the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT is going to set a new standard for luxurious EV models.
Incredible Performance
The first thing you should probably know about the Audi e-Tron GT is that it was developed alongside the Porsche Taycan with a shared architecture. Knowing that, you’d expect it to have some pretty impressive performance, and it absolutely lives up to those expectations. There are two options for the motor and power system available. While both systems offer a fantastic driving experience, one of them is certainly more powerful than the other.
Most models of the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT feature a dual synchronous motor system with a 93 kWh Li-ion battery, with both a standard driving mode and a boost mode to provide improved performance at the expense of battery life. Typically, the e-Tron GT’s power system provides an exhilarating 469 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque; switch on boost mode, however, and you’ll get 522 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. This is an incredible driving experience that lets you go from 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 152 mph.
If, somehow, that’s not enough power for you, then there’s an enhanced RS model available with an even more impressive motor system. The RS delivers 590 hp (637 hp in boost mode), as well as 612 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the innovative 2-speed transmission, this model can go from 0 to 60 in just 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. The RS will certainly cost you more than the standard e-Tron GT, but driving it is really something else.
Fast, Easy Charging
For a lot of drivers, a major concern with the move toward an EV market is how long these vehicles can take to charge and how many miles you can get with them between stops. In the past, this has been a major problem, especially for trucks and performance vehicles, but fortunately, the technology involved just keeps getting better. While you certainly won’t get instantaneous charging or anything as fast as filling up a gas tank, the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT will be a great option for a lot of drivers.
The estimated range of the e-Tron GT is 238 miles on a full charge, though Audi is still waiting on the EPA’s official range estimates. What I do know, however, is that charging the GT is going to be remarkably simple. Estimates from Audi state that it will take about 10 hours to fully charge the e-Tron GT from your home, but using a DC Fast Charging station is going to significantly reduce that. How much? Audi states it will take just 22.5 minutes to charge from 5% to 80% at a fast charger!
Stunning Interior Luxury
As you would expect from Audi, the interior of the e-Tron GT is absolutely gorgeous, with plenty of space and a luxurious, comfortable design that really sets it apart. A lot of people are going to compare this to something like the Tesla Model S in terms of high-performance, luxury options. And while Tesla models are pretty well known for sparse yet refined interiors, they can feel kind of cold for a lot of drivers.
The interior of the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT feels like the inside of a luxury vehicle, rather than an attempt at reinventing what we expect when we sit down in a car. It has 14-way power-adjustable seating standard, featuring Dinamica and Alcantara surfaces for comfort and a gorgeous feel. Of course, you can take that further with available Nappa leather seating surfaces that really reflect just how sophisticated and luxurious the interior is.
The flat-bottom steering wheel feels perfect for a vehicle with this kind of performance, and it includes paddles and controls so you can alter things like regenerative braking and other settings. The Alcantara material used on the steering wheel is softer than you’d probably expect but also highly durable, and it really lends itself to a luxurious driving experience. You can’t help but feel surrounded by comfort.
Bold Interior Technology
Comfort’s great, of course, but while I certainly enjoy a luxurious seat, the technology inside the e-Tron GT is what I really find compelling. Ambient interior lighting includes available multi-color LED contour illumination that creates a gentle glow throughout the inside of the cabin. Since you can customize this and set the color scheme to what you prefer, it’s easy to create a mood that perfectly matches the kind of drive you’re going for.
The central 10.1-inch infotainment display is gorgeous and gives you all of the information you and your navigator need, while steering wheel-mounted controls and voice recognition make it easy to control your music and other features. There’s a gorgeous driver display as well, plus an available head-up display that lets you keep your eyes on the road while also staying informed about your speed, navigation, and other details. This creates what Audi calls a “Virtual Cockpit” that really makes it easy to monitor everything you need to know while simply enjoying the experience of driving this gorgeous piece of machinery.
Fantastic Safety Features
As much as I love luxury, comfort, and entertainment technology, there’s really nothing more important when it comes to a vehicle than how well it can help keep you safe. As you’d expect, the 2022 Audi e-Tron GT includes some of the most impressive safety technology out there, which will help protect you and your loved ones on the road. For example, the available adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go functionality can keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you, slowing and stopping if needed and adjusting to help you stay in your lane.
A top-view camera system uses multiple cameras and sensors to create a virtual image of the area surrounding your vehicle, so you gain an unbeatable sense of what’s around you when you need it. You’ll get a forward collision warning with automated emergency braking standard on every model, while available features include blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert. A lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist will also be available, along with remote self-parking assist, which lets you park the car using your smartphone app! It doesn’t get much easier than that.
The e-Tron GT Launches a New Era of Performance
Audi is well known for revolutionizing the world of high-performance automobiles when it introduced the Quattro all-wheel drive system back in 1980. Today, they are again leading the charge to change our perception of what a performance car means. As the e-Tron GT starts hitting the streets, we expect it to begin showing up gasoline cars in the same way that Audi’s Quattro embarrassed rear-wheel drive rally cars four decades ago.
