Each year, various manufacturers across the entire automotive industry announce their new makes and models. Among these, Chevy has managed to produce excitement year after year. Devotees of the bow-tie brand are looking forward to the release of the 2023 Chevy Silverado with unbridled anticipation, and who can blame them? Chevy seems to have no shortage of impressive announcements regarding its fleet, and before you make your way to a Silverado dealer to upgrade, you might want to consider some essential customization to make your purchase more than just a vehicle but an extension of your personality. One of the best ways to add a little bit of flare to your Silverado is through the packages Chevy offers, so let’s take a look at them and see how you can upgrade your truck.
Convenience Package
Standard For: LT, RST, LT Trail Boss
While we won’t be going over every single package that’s available for the upcoming model year, we wanted to start out our list as strong as possible with Chevy’s Convenience Package. As you might assume from the name alone, the Convenience Package makes comfort and organization, well, convenient. In terms of keeping yourself comfortable, dual-zone climate automatic control, heated driver and passenger seats, and a ten-way power-adjustable driver’s seat makes for a more serene driving experience. Tech features such as a 120-volt power outlet and remote start help your Silverado have a little more convenient capability for using tech or warming up your truck before heading out in the morning.
Dark Essentials Package
Available For: All
We go from the interior comforts and convenience to the exterior aesthetic that can really give your Silverado that dangerous edge you crave. This option will take some of the recognizable features, such as the tailgate decal, engine badges, and the emblem on the front end, and blacken them out. If you’re keen on adding a touch of darkness to the exterior of your Silverado, then this is the ideal package for you.
Trailering Package
Standard For: Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ, High Country
Available For: WT
Many people who purchase a Silverado are what we call the “trailering type.” For some, towing comes with their occupational duties, while others utilize the activity for extra-curricular enjoyment. The Trailering Package is perfect for either situation. You’ll not only get a hitch with an electrical harness to make all the proper electrical connections, but you’ll also receive GM’s Hitch Guidance system. This camera-based technology makes hook-up and disembarking easier than ever and will make the process of towing a much more efficient experience.
Max Trailering Package
Available For: LT, RST, LTZ, High Country
Of course, as with anything else in life, sometimes you need more towing help, and this is where the Max Trailering Package comes in handy. You’ll have all of the advantages of the trailering package, but various adjustments are made to your Silverado’s suspension to ensure that it can handle that larger-than-average workload. An altered suspension, revised tuning to the shocks, an automatic locking rear differential, and heavy-duty springs that will allow you to tow more are all included. The axle ratio is also adjusted to increase towing capacity and gross vehicle weight. You’ll be the towing king of the road.
Assist Step and Tonneau Value Package (ASTP)
ASTP I Available For: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss
ASTP II Available For: Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ
ASTP III Available For: Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, ZR2, LTZ
To some, this might not be the most exciting addition to their truck; for others, it’s a necessity. If you plan on getting a lift kit for your truck at some point, then having a step on the side will provide others with accessible entry and exit. If you like to store a lot of loose cargo in the truck bed, a tonneau cover is essential.
There are three available Assist Step and Tonneau Value Packages, with the first being a set of black steps and a soft roll-up tonneau cover. The next step up offers a choice of four-inch chrome or black steps with a tri-fold soft tonneau cover. The highest tier features six-inch chrome or black assist steps and a hard-folding tonneau cover by REV.
Leather Package
Available For: LT, RST, LT Trail Boss
Many people love the style and elevation that comes when they buy a luxury sedan but need a pickup truck to handle their daily routine. If you’re in the market to replicate the suave and sophisticated interior that luxury sedans vehicles are known for in your truck, then the Leather Package is all too perfect. Leather-appointed seats will maximize your comfort and give you the luxe driving experience always wanted.
Safety Package
Standard For: LTZ
Available For: LT, RST, LT Trail Boss
To be clear, every Silverado comes with an excellent set of driver-assist features to lend a hand when you’re traveling, but there are even more you can add on. For the ultimate peace of mind that comes from knowing you have a safe ride as well as a comfortable one, the Safety Package is one of the best options you can utilize for your Silverado. You’ll have the benefit of HD Surround Vision, Rear Pedestrian Alert, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert Braking. Depending on the trim, you will have Rear Park Assist or Front and Rear Park Assist. For those who plan on doing some towing and trailering, you’ll be happy to know that Trailer Camera Provisions and Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert are also included. You also get Perimeter Lighting to help provide extra illumination when working at night.
Snow Plow Prep Package
Available For: WT, LT
If you live in a geographical location that has a considerable amount of snowfall each winter, you might want to have a plow on your truck to help get rid of the snow. Before you think of having a plow installed on your Silverado, you’ll want to upgrade to this package to get it geared up for the season. This package includes new front springs that are meant to support the weight of a plow and a high-capacity air filter and transmission oil cooler. Because there’s a lot of debris and salt that comes with icy roads, you’ll also have the advantage of skid plates to protect the undercarriage of your vehicle and transfer case.
Liner Protection Package
Available For: WT, LT, RST
It’s safe to assume that if you drive a pickup, you’ll most likely be spending some time in the dirt. While the exterior can be cleaned up with a quick visit to the neighborhood car wash, the dust, dirt, and debris can get into the interior of your vehicle, causing an inconvenience for those who are keen to keep their interiors clean. The Liner Protection Package will give your truck all-weather floor liners and rear wheelhouse liners, which will make clean-up easier and protect the floor of your cabin.
Up-Level Rear Seat With Storage Package
Standard For: ZR2, LTZ, High Country
Available For: LT, RST, LT Trail Boss
We’re going to stay with the interior and briefly focus our attention on the backseat, a feature that rarely gets the attention that it deserves. If you plan on having passengers in your truck more often than not, this is for you. Not only will you get a full-length bench seat with a center fold-out armrest with cupholders, but you’ll also have storage underneath that matches the width of the entire cab. Storage and comfort––always a winning combination. Keep in mind this is only available for Crew Cab models.
Advantages of Additional Packages
With the purchase of any vehicle, you have the opportunity to make it your own. With many of the packages that Chevy now offers, you have the chance to outfit your Silverado with the features and attributes that reflect both your needs and personality. Whether it’s accessories that make towing easier, aesthetic and cosmetic touches that help you express yourself, or even features that highlight performance and increase safety, you have options. It’s no wonder why the Silverado is America’s most popular pickup––you have the chance to create exactly the truck you need.
