Ford F-150 vs. Ram 1500: Whose 2024 Pickup Offers the Most Power and Towing Capability?

A strong pickup truck is the ideal vehicle for adventuring. With the power to overcome any obstacle, as well as the capability to carry even the heaviest equipment for the journey, these vehicles have exactly what adventurers are looking for. Some pickup trucks are designed with work in mind, and some for practicality, but where off-roading is concerned, Ford and Ram are the two greatest providers. With vehicles that have the adaptability that thrill seekers are looking for, it’s easy to get caught trying to choose between a high-powered Ford or a high-caliber Ram. When looking at the 2024 Ford F-150 vs. 2024 Ram 1500 battle that is brewing in the coming year, it’s sure to be a close call between these two trucks.

Ford’s option is quite a tough act to follow. Having maintained the title of America’s best-selling pickup truck for 46 years running, it’s difficult to fathom any vehicle being able to step to the F-150’s power, capability, and adaptability. However, Ram is coming out swinging with the 2024 Ram 1500, a pickup that is leaving the rest of the competition in the dust with its intuitive tech features, top-notch powertrain options, and immense towing capability. In the coming year, these two contenders are going to be locked in combat in the best way possible, each offering some fantastic capabilities that are sure to give the other a run for its money. Regardless of which vehicle comes out on top, one thing is certain, that 2024 is bringing two excellent trucks to the automotive market.

Of course, it stands to reason that one must have an edge over the other. Each of these vehicles offers more power and performance features than any previous generation, able to go faster and further than ever. Being harbingers of some of the most influential innovations of the past decade, both of these pickups bring their own unique tech features to the table that can increase adventure more than you ever thought possible. With two strong and rugged options, the question isn’t whether you should jump behind the wheel of a new truck in the 2024 model year, but which brand you should go with. Ram and Ford are among the most trusted brands in the American automotive industry, so you’re sure to get a high-quality truck no matter which side you end up on. If you’re caught in the middle, let’s take a look at whose specs leave the other in the dust.

Performance

The newest generation of F-150 models will feature more performance features than any other iteration. With six different engines to choose from, there’s immense room for customizing your driving experience. The standard option among these is a significant upgrade over previous years, with a 2.7L EcoBoost Turbo V6 engine that produces 325 horsepower. This is truly an improvement over the 290 horsepower capability of the 2023 model’s base engine, a 3.3L V6 that is no longer offered. Other engine options include the 5.0L Coyote V8 making 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque and the 3.5L EcoBoost Turbo V6 also making 400 horsepower but 500 lb-ft of torque. A hybrid F-150 is also available, powered by a 3.5L PowerBoost Turbo V6 making 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. The Raptor comes only with a 3.5L High Output EcoBoost V6 that makes 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, while the top-spec Raptor R features a 5.2L “Predator” Supercharged V8 putting out an amazing 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque.

Ram vehicles are traditionally quite powerful as well, and the newest member of the Ram 1500 family is no exception. A mild hybrid 3.6L eTorque V6 is the 2024 Ram 1500 model’s standard engine, capable of producing up to 305 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. While less powerful than the Ford F-150 model’s base engine, this is still quite enough to get adventurers on their way. Additional engine options include a mild hybrid 5.7L eTorque V8 making 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The 1500 TRX is Ram’s answer to the F-150 Raptor, featuring the famous 6.2L Hellcat supercharged V8 putting out 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

This engine kicks the ultimate horsepower rating above the F-150 by a small margin, but the F-150 has six engine options compared to the Ram’s three. With twice as many engine options in its corner, the Ford F-150 has more versatile power specs, as well as more ways to customize the driving experience to your exact preferences. With more efficiency and versatility in its corner, the 2024 Ford F-150 prevails where power is concerned.

Towing

With so many engine options to choose from, the 2024 F-150 has plenty of towing capability. Some of its powertrains feature higher capacities than others, but even at its least capable, the F-150 is an absolute beast that can help carry precious cargo anywhere you need it, whether that’s on the road or off. With its standard 2.7L engine, the F-150 is capable of towing up to 10,100 pounds, making it perfectly capable of bringing that trailer you need for your weekend in the country. With its 400 horsepower 3.5L EcoBoost V6 option, the F-150 becomes even more capable, increasing the towing capacity to 13,500 pounds, making it capable of towing just about anything you need.

The 2024 Ram 1500 is also more than capable of carrying heavy loads, making it a great option for those looking for a fast-paced adventure. With its standard 3.6L V6, it has a towing capacity of 7,730 pounds. Though this is significantly less than the Ford F-150, this is still enough capacity to carry a trailer or small boat. With its 5.7L engine option, the 2024 Ram 1500 model’s towing capacity increases to a great degree, making it capable of carrying up to 12,750 pounds.

When it comes to towing, there is no contest. Though the Ram 1500 is able to carry some heavy loads with its 5.7L engine option, it simply can’t compete with the amount of towing capacity that the F-150 offers. Whether you’re working with its base engine option or its highest output engine, the 2024 Ford F-150 can tow far more than the 2024 Ram 1500.

Who Prevails?

Both offerings from Ford and Ram are excellent trucks that make the 2024 model year exciting, especially for drivers who are eager to explore uncharted territories. There’s no doubt that these two models will be some of the most sought-after trucks in the coming year. When reviewing the facts, however, it’s clear that there is a superior choice between them, and that is the 2024 Ford F-150.

With equal power, twice as many engine choices, and more towing capability, the F-150 is sure to get adventurers out there in bold new ways that the 2024 Ram 1500 will have a slightly harder time keeping up with. Plus, with more safety and technology features than ever, the 2024 Ford F-150 will keep drivers in the know and out for longer. Though the 2024 F-150 does come out on top when it comes to adventuring capability, the win is a narrow one, and the 2024 Ram 1500 has plenty going for it in its own right, especially in the TRX model. Though the 2024 Ford F-150 wins the day where the excitement is concerned, drivers are sure to be running to dealerships looking for both of these models in 2024.
