Diving Into The 2020 Chevy Corvette Infotainment System

Gone are the days where the Chevy Corvette is a sports car all about performance. Sure, it’s still one of the best bang-for-your-buck sports cars on the planet as it can compete with European cars that cost ten times that of the Corvette, and yes, you have the all-new mid-engine design to look forward to, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy your time inside the cabin. You’ll always have the thrill of a Corvette coming to life as you hit the ignition, and the sheer enjoyment of your Corvette’s handling and smell will remain with you, but the all-new 2020 Chevy Corvette infotainment system is something to behold as well. So, whether you’re typing “Chevy dealer near me” to track a new Corvette down, or you’re simply an avid fan, here’s everything you need to know about the brand new infotainment system.

Louder Can Be Better

We’ve all been there, sitting at a red light, when a car rolls up, sound system blasting, the oversized subwoofers rattling louder in the trunk than the car’s missing muffler. It makes your chest shake more than any hospital defibrillator ever could. You make a smart comment about the sound system to the person riding with you, but even they can’t hear you talk over the obnoxious sound of the car next to you. This is an example of loud just to be loud. It’s a system installed in a car that can’t handle it, and the speakers were never made to produce sound that loud. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a quality audio system in your own vehicle. In fact, the 2020 Chevy Corvette is built to be loud.

Just how loud is the 2020 Chevy Corvette? Well, it comes with a 14-speaker Bose sound system that is the loudest speaker system Bose has ever put in a two-passenger coupe. It’s impressive in its own way that Bose and Chevy were able to squeeze 14 speakers into a two-person car (the standard option is a 10-speaker Bose system). These are not oversized speakers for the sake of having speakers. Instead, each speaker is specifically placed to provide you with a fully immersive listening experience. The audio system comes packed with varying audio settings to alter how you hear your music. Want to feel like you’re in a European opera house? There’s a setting for that. Maybe you’d like the car to sound like you’re in the middle of a sci-fi flick? Sure thing. The beauty of the audio system is that not all speakers are on at all times based on the audio setting you have. And with varying settings, you’ll settle on a configuration that works best for you.

Tech At Your Fingertips

The Corvette dash is different from what you’ll find in other vehicles. This is because not only is the car designed for just two people, but there is a central divider between the two seats. Typically with other vehicles, you’d have a dashboard of information behind the steering wheel and then a control tower of information, AC hardware, some vents, and the other basics you’ve come to expect in a car. But that’s not how the Corvette is designed. There is no large central tower. Instead, there is the driver information based behind the steering wheel (all of which is digital), and angled toward the driver’s seat is an 8-inch touchscreen.

The screen is angled for easy access from the driver, which makes more sense than having a touchscreen mounted in the center and tilted away from the driver. With this infotainment system, it comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This way, if you’re in one ecosystem or the other, you’ll be able to easily pair it with your phone. In fact, the system uses NFC phone pairing, so there’s no more complicated Bluetooth syncing. Instead, the infotainment system will automatically detect the phone by simply holding the phone up to the screen.

The touchscreen also features SiriusXM and HD radio. Plus, there is an HD backup camera in the rear of the Corvette that feeds into the screen. This way, you can keep your eyes forward while still controlling the vehicle while it backs up. Add in the standard Chevy 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and the sports coupe is packed with all the connectivity you might need.

In the dash behind the steering wheel, you’ll find a 12-inch information cluster screen. The information displayed on the gauge cluster can be adjusted based on what you’re doing in the vehicle at the time and what you want to see. From fuel economy to engine performance, everything you need can be displayed front and center.

The information displayed within the cluster will often vary depending on the kind of drive mode you have the 2020 Chevy Corvette set in. When you set the car in “Sport” mode the cluster will display transmission shifts and other helpful information while the “Track” mode will bring up a tachometer. The Performance Data Recorder can also appear, which shows off several helpful information you can record and compare to information at a later date.

The Upgraded Trim Options

The 14-speaker Bose system is found in the 2LT trim packages (on up). In addition to the 8-inch LCD touchscreen and the 12-inch info gauge cluster, you’ll also have a HUD (head-up display) and added navigation. The trim package also adds wireless charging, so you can charge up your mobile tech on the fly (as long as your smartphone or tablet supports wireless charging). There’s also a front bumper camera. With the low profile of the Corvette having a front camera installed so you know how close you are to the curb is a solid little feature. There’s nothing worse than hearing the “CRUNCH” sound of pulling up too close to a curb, and the front bumper scrapes over the cement. Plus, in the 2LT trim, there are built-in screens into the rearview mirrors that will feed in the backup camera image.

Everything Is Customizable

The beauty of the full Corvette infotainment system is that you can customize just about everything. There are redundant buttons and controls spread throughout the vehicle, so you can adjust each button as needed. If you want a hot-key for a particular command, you can program the Corvette to perform a certain way or to turn on a set function based on the button request. This way, you can customize the interior of your riding experience just as much as you can with your driving experience.

The infotainment system has come a long way in modern cars. A half-century ago, you might have had a radio built into the dash. Then came the 8-track, the tape deck, and eventually, the CD player. But now the kind of technology you have at your disposal is unlike anything to come before it. So if you’ve been dreaming of a Corvette for some time, there’s far more to enjoy than just the engine and the car’s handling. There’s the full 2020 Chevy Corvette infotainment system, as well. From listening to classic rock as you enjoy a summer drive to looking up directions to the nearest Thai restaurant, everything you could ever possibly need is at your disposal in the all-new Chevy Corvette.
