Chevy dealers have plenty of reason to be excited about the new 2017 Camaro ZL1. As you saw in the title, it’s been confirmed that this is the fastest Camaro the market has ever seen. Reinvented for the sixth-generation Camaro, the entire purpose of its creation is to challenge — and crush — the most advanced sports coupes in the world. Not to mention, looking at least 10x more badass while doing it, thanks to its muscular design. Thanks to its powerhouse of an engine – a 6.2-liter V8 beast – the ZL1 generates enough horsepower and torque to careen this Camaro down the road like a rocket propelled grenade – powerful, fast, and controlled.
Drooling, yet? I am. Especially after seeing the design…
The New ZL1 is THAT Bro at the Gym
Yes, the ZL1 is THAT bro at the fictional gym cars go to in order to work on their muscles. You know the one I’m talking about: bald, bearded, and badass. With biceps that could crush your skull just by flexing them, and a voice that’s just as deep and dark as the beer he drinks. All the other sports coupes in the gym look like a Prius next to him, and they silently envy and admire the fact that the Camaro ZL1’s pecs have pecs. Why? Because, GM made sure the ZL1 was pounding raw eggs Rocky-style, and sprinting from weight machine to weight machine while holding a pair of 50 lb. dumbbells. And doing it all while belting, “you mad, bro?” at the top of his lungs, commanding everyone’s attention.
In all seriousness through, the new ZL1 is getting a lot of attention for its damn good looks. While the other coupes are slimmer and thinner, the ZL1 is beefy. It’s got wide hips, broad shoulders, and an open jaw that gives it a very mean look. Big tires, wide fenders, and rippling muscle are what the new 2017 Camaro ZL1 is all about.
A Powerhouse of an Engine
The engine powering this thing is just as much of a monstrous badass as the body it inhabits. It’s a 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine, which is paired to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual is optional for those who want to relive their glory days. That engine should sound familiar, since it’s the same engine found in the Corvette Z06, which means it puts out a massive 650 horsepower (at 6,400 rpm) and 650 lb.-ft. of torque (at 3,600 rpm).
With an engine this juiced-up and the Camaro ZL1’s build quality, the recorded performance times shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Zero to 60 MPH Times and More
Thanks to its aerodynamic engineering and extremely powerful engine, the Camaro ZL1 is able to go from 0-to-60 mph in just 3.5 freaking seconds, making it the fastest Camaro every produced. It can do a quarter mile run within less than 12 seconds, if that helps put things into a better perspective.
That’s .5 seconds faster than the 2016 Camaro SS and the ZL1 harbors almost over 200 horsepower and torque more under its hood. It’s a beast no doubt, and something that the other sports coupes and cars on the road should rightfully fear.
