Chevy Defines Heavy Duty with its All-New 2020 Chevy Silverado HD

If you are in the market for a heavy duty truck, then Chevy has the one for you. Not content to rest on past success, Chevrolet has come out with a brand-new redesign of its classic Silverado pickup truck. The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD takes the line to places its never been before, offering a combination of rugged strength and luxury standards that should have every heavy duty truck fan heading to the nearest dealer to check out. The redesign of the Silverado includes an increased wheelbase, with a higher cab, and larger cargo bed, which has increased the cabin space available for your passengers, and more room for your cargo.

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD takes up where its older siblings left off, with the 2019 model garnering the highest-ranked large, heavy duty pickup in initial quality from JD Power & Associates, while the 2016 model was awarded top honors for long-term quality. This gives the new model quite a great lineage and pedigree.

Five trim packages to choose from

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD comes in two models for daily use (more if you are looking for a commercial truck). Those models are the 2500 and 3500, and they come with five different trims to choose from.

The base model is the Work Truck, with an MSRP of $38,300. This is followed by the Custom with an MSRP of $40,800, the LT with an MSRP of $41,800, the LTZ with an MSRP of $50,500, and the top of the line High Country with an MSRP of $61,100.

Increased Size Equals Increased Comfort

All 2020 Chevy Silverado HDs have the option of a crew cab design, but there are also options for a double cab and regular cab depending on the trim. As for the truck beds, they come either standard or long.

For both the 2500 and 3500, the standard bed is 250 inches long, of which 80.2 inches are for cargo area alone. Need to haul more stuff? Then you can choose the long bed option with an extra 16 inches of payload length. The key difference in size between the two HD models is width, with the 2500 measuring 81.9 inches and the 3500 measuring 96.7 inches. The all-new 2020 Chevy Silverado HD also features an increased wheelbase of almost 159 inches.

Together, all of this will provide you and your passengers with greater comfort. The 40/20/40 split-bench front seat fits up to three passengers, and features an extremely roomy 43.03 inches of headroom, 44.53 inches of legroom, and 66.02 inches of shoulder room. But don’t worry about the folks in the back.

Your three extra passengers will enjoy 40.12 inches of legroom, 43.40 inches of legroom, and 65.30 inches of shoulder room. The added cabin space will not cut into your ability to haul stuff, as the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD Work Truck offers 69.50 inches of cargo volume. This should be plenty of room for even your largest loads.

Two Engines to Help Tow the Heaviest Trailers

The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD comes with a standard 6.6L V8 gas engine that is both powerful and efficient. This engine features a maximum 401 horsepower, while producing 464 lb-ft of torque and is paired with 6-speed automatic transmission.

Need more towing power? The optional Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 produces 445 horsepower, with an astounding 910 pounds to feet of torque. The diesel features an Allison 10-speed transmission. Properly equipped, the 3500HD can tow up to 35,500 lbs while the 2500HD can tow 18,500 lbs. The increased wheelbase of the new Silverado HD should also help you with your towing.

Chevy has also included standard side BedSteps and a corner step rear bumper to provide you with easier access to what’s in the bed. Oh, and did I mention that the trailering package is standard on all 2020 Chevy Silverado HDs? All this should take away all your worries about towing, whether it is a trailer, a boat, or even another vehicle.

Chevrolet has made safety a standard on its brand-new Silverado HD. The Work Truck comes equipped with a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system, rear vision camera, daytime running lights, StabiliTrak (Chevy’s electronic stability control system with traction control), six airbags, tire pressure monitoring system, and the Teen Driver system, which can monitor even the most rambunctious new driver in your family. All of these should provide plenty of protection for you and your passengers. If you would like more safety features, upgrades are available on the starting with the Work Truck, including front and rear park assist, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, and Chevy’s OnStar system. These features become standard on higher trims.

The other trims offer additional safety features, either as part of the package or options, including HD surround vision, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, IntelliBeam headlamps, and safety alert seat, which provide warnings to the driver through seat vibrations.

Entertainment Systems

The new 2020 Chevy Silverado HD comes with standard entertainment system and connectivity. All models feature the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System with a color touchscreen but some additional features. This includes an AM/FM stereo, Bluetooth capability, and either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto depending on your smartphone’s operating system. Drivers can even turn their truck into a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot for a small upgrade with a subscription fee. USB ports are available as well, with up to 6 on the top-of-the-line High Country. In addition, you will be able to access the myChevrolet mobile app, so you can stay in touch, learn more about your vehicle, and even schedule service appointments.

Color Choices

Do you know what makes for a tough decision? Choosing the color of your new 2020 Chevy Silverado HD. You can choose Black, paint the town Red Hot, make an educated decision with Oxford Brown Metallic, stay cool with Silver Ice Metallic, reach the top with Summit White, be stealthy with Shadow Grey Metallic, or go soaring in your Northsay Blue Metallic Silverado HD. Iridescent Pearl Tricoat and Cajun Red Tintcoat are also available for an additional fee.

Exceptional Fuel Economy for a Truck of this Size

The EPA tested the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD, and the results were surprising. Well, not really surprising as much as amazing for a truck of this size, weight, and towing capacity. They found that the 2020 Silverado HD with a 6.6L V8 gas engine should provide 16 miles per gallon combined, with 14 miles per gallon in city driving, and 18 miles per gallon on the highway. The fuel economy results for the Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 were even better: an incredible combined 25 miles per gallon, with 23 miles per gallon for city driving, and 29 miles per gallon on the highway. The new Silverado will give you great mileage without compromising the heavy duty nature of the vehicle or compromising its creature comforts.

The all-new 2020 Chevy Silverado HD will give you the luxury you want with the performance truck you need. It has strength, power, and ruggedness, but also solid fuel efficiency, exceptional roominess, and standard safety and entertainment systems. The 2020 Chevy Silverado HD is an all-new Silverado for a new decade, ushering in a new era for Chevy’s heavy duty pickup truck.
