We have known about the Chevy Trailblazer for some time now. Once General Motors decided to bring back the Blazer, we all assumed it was a matter of time before the Trailblazer returned as well. Of course, over the last few months, Chevy has been dropping information here and there about the crossover for us. One drop here, another drop there. Just enough for a taste but never enough to truly satisfy our thirst for automotive knowledge. Well, we finally have some more insights as the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer has been tested by different government agencies (who are having a lot more fun than other government agencies these days). We still do not have all the insights, including an exact release date, but with each passing day, we do learn more about what the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer will end up being.
The 2021 Trailblazer Fuel Economy
When it comes to family vehicles such as the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer, many people’s first thoughts run to the fuel economy. Carting kids to practice, or going camping on weekends can rack up miles fast – so being fuel efficient is important. This is something we have only speculated on for the 2021 Trailblazer over the last few months. We knew the crossover would use a 1.3L I3 engine, but we did not know what kind of fuel economy it would have. We finally have those reports. According to the released information, the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer will net about 26 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway.
We should point out that these numbers are for the all-wheel-drive offering. We do not yet have the EPA for Chevy’s 1.2L I3 front-wheel-drive Trailblazer. You can rest assured that the fuel economy for that model will be higher, but 26 and 30 is not a bad place to start.
Waiting On Engine Performance Specs For The Trailblazer
So we know there will be a 1.3L I3 and a 1.2L I3 engine used, with the smaller engine coming in the front-wheel-drive trims. However, we do not know the specific horsepower and torque specifics. Those numbers should come out soon, but the exact same engines are already used in the Buick Encore GX, so we are confident the numbers should be nearly the same. There might be one or two fewer or more horses or lb-ft of torque, but we are pretty positive there will be any noticeable difference. These engines provide pretty good numbers, so it is no wonder Chevy decided to use them in the Trailblazer. The 1.3L I3 engine produces 155 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque, while the 1.2L I3 engine produces 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque.
Packages That Will Not Break the Bank
Before a vehicle comes out, we never really know how much the add-ons or trims might cost. Chevy did announce the trim price points a few months ago, and even more recently, we have learned what the additional price options will cost. And, when you consider other compact crossover vehicles on the road, the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer is one of the most affordable options out there.
The base trim, L, will have a starting MSRP of $19,995. It is obvious that Chevy wanted to slip in under the $20K tag, which makes the new Trailblazer very affordable. The trims moving up from there will have entry MSPRs of LS: $22,495, LT: $24,595, ACTIV: $26,395, and RS also starting at $26,395.
When selecting a trim, there are six outside color options as well as two-tone color options. The beauty of the two-tone color options is there is no extra cost. Most other vehicle manufacturers will charge you extra for a two-tone paint job, so it is nice you can give your Trailblazer some extra personality without paying more. There is one paint color that costs an additional $645, and this is the Iridescent Pearl Tricolor finish.
You can add several add-on packages to the 2021 Trailblazer. This includes a Driver Confidence Package, which runs $345, and a $620 Convenience Package. These packages will add small tweaks to safety features as well as some minor improvements to comfort inside the vehicle. We do not have all the goodie insights as to what will be packaged with the convenience package. The Driver Confidence Package includes rear cross-traffic alert, rear park assist, and lane change alert with side blind zone alert.
If you want to add some sporty touches to the Trailblazer, you will want to opt for the Sun and Liftgate package, which is $1,770. The liftgate feature is especially helpful as you can open up the liftgate on the rear of the Trailblazer using your foot. Because let’s face it, there are times where we have 50 grocery bags hanging from your hands. We do not want to try and put some of the bags down in order to fish through pockets for the keys (also, a little hint if you have ever cursed at yourself as the plastic bags eat into your fingers while you struggle to make it up the stairs of your, pick up some hand-width carabiner clips. You can slip the bag handles inside of the clip and then hold onto the top, which will save your fingers from the surprising strain the plastic bags can cause).
The last package is one of our favorites, which is the technology package. If you want to go all-in with the speaker and navigation system, you will want to splurge on this one, which runs $1,720. But what do you get for this kind of additional price point? After all, if you are going to be dropping this kind of money, you will want some amazing tech bang in return. Well, for starters, it will upgrade the touch-screen from seven-inches to eight-inches. It will also come packaged with a seven-speaker Bose premium sound system. There will be a 4.2-inch driver information center behind your steering wheel, as well as a number of other small features that will help improve the overall quality of your drive (at least as long as you are a tech fan).
We should point out that these are the estimated prices we have received as of this moment. It is possible there might be some tweaks between now and the arrival of the Trailblazer at your local dealership, but for now, these prices are 100% accurate.
The Chevy Trailblazer Is Coming, We Promise
Yes, yes, we have been talking about the Chevy Trailblazer since last year. We have been shouting from the rooftops that the crossover SUV would, in fact, come out at some point in 2020. We still stand by that because we wholeheartedly believe it will hit dealerships in the coming months. If you like what has been reported so far about the Trailblazer, you do not have much longer to wait. Stick in there because this crossover vehicle is undoubtedly worth the wait. Once it hits the lots, this revamped Chevy vehicle is surely going to be turning heads, and you are going to want one.
