Nissan GT-R “Alpha G” Runs 6-Second Quarter Mile Time

A 0-60 mph time of six seconds is actually considered mediocre in 2017 since a lot of your top-notch performance cars hit 0-60 mph in under 5 (or even under 4) seconds.

A 6-second quarter mile time though? You’d tell me that I’m just blowing smoke. Part of me wishes I was, because this is one terrifying concept. But, the other part of me is excited to tell you that it’s absolutely true. The company called AMS Performance decided to take a Nissan GT-R (which is already a badass performance car) and mod the s*** out of it so it could scare everyone who watched it take off like a rocket.

Meet the Alpha G – a car that’s able to run a quarter mile in 6.937 seconds at a top speed of 196.27 mph. It did this at the TX2K17 event in Houston.

That’s almost 7 seconds, yes. But, it’s still technically in the 6-second range. Besides, it’s still a freakishly fast quarter mile time. So who cares?

Thanks to the Alpha G, AMS Performance Has Bragging Rights

Before we dive into the specs of the Alpha G, it’s important to know that AMS Performance has some serious bragging rights.

AMS can claim they have the world’s fastest street-legal GT-R that can do six-second quarter mile runs. If that wasn’t enough, the company also has GT-R models they’ve modded that are able to run a quarter mile in nine, eight, and seven seconds.

Cool, right?

The Alpha G’s Insane Engine

Apart from being a Nissan GT-R, the Alpha G is also a beast that’s too powerful for its own good.

How did AMS achieve such an insane track time? By strapping two massive turbochargers onto the bumper itself. As everyone knows, a standard turbocharger is a great way to get increased horsepower on your average car. Which means the power output of the Alpha G with two massive turbos attached to it isn’t just slightly increased – it’s ludicrous.

AMS is claiming that the output of the Alpha G’s engine is sitting somewhere north of 2,500 horsepower.

I’ll repeat that again in italics for dramatic emphasis: 2,500 freaking horsepower.

Want to know the real kicker? AMS Performance says they can still open up another 1,000 horsepower in the Alpha G. I don’t even want to think about how fast this model GT-R could run a 0-60 mph time with the power of 3,500 horses powering it.

A Standard Nissan GT-R is Powerful

The question is: why? Now, I’m not an adrenaline junkie when it comes to fast cars, so I probably don’t know the answer to that. I’ll take my truck-based SUVs all day long.

So for me, and many others I’m sure, your standard Nissan GT-R is powerful enough. A 2017 Nissan GT-R Premium produces 565 horsepower, and the Nismo model produces 600 horsepower. Granted, the starting MSRP of a 2017 model is $109,990.

Clearly though, it wasn’t fast enough or expensive enough for AMS Performance…
