News about the 2021 Chevy Camaro made its way around the car community with a little less fanfare than most other car announcements made throughout 2020. Everyone who kept their ear to the ground and their thumb on the fuel line knew what was coming and what the Camaro was coming with (and without). Perhaps it may look a little less enticing for those looking for a more feature-rich sports car with significant changes for the most recent production outings, but then again, the less extravagant changes could be a reason why the 2021 outing looks like a good catch for those who missed out on the previous iterations.
Same Trims, New Model Year
The model year for the Chevy Camaro might say 2021, but the trim offerings are all going to stay the same as they were from 2020. In fact, not only are the trims and trim variances going to stay the same, but there aren’t any major changes to the 2021 Chevy Camaro in general. As far as trims go, the offerings are the LS, the LT, the LT1, the SS, and the ZL1.
And while there are not many changes in general, the 2021 Chevy Camaro takes advantage of all the upgrades that Chevrolet implemented for the 2019 and 2020 refresh. Therefore, this Camaro is modern and has lots of features on offer.
2021 Chevy Camaro Design
No new exterior design changes have been made to the 2021 iteration of the Chevy Camaro. The exterior will continue to offer the same kind of sexy accents and fluted vents as the 2020 refresh. GM has even retained the Camaro 2SS design for the promotion of the 2021 model.
The front end retains a very aggressive fascia, with the grille stretching across the entirety of the lower bumper, while fang-like accents are angled just under the headlights to give the fender that predatory guise.
While the actual body designs might be the same as the sixth generation refresh, the exterior colors have undergone some minor alterations. Two colors have been removed from the color options, while a new color has been added. Interestingly enough, it was the Garnet Red Tintcoat and Rally Green Metallic that were taken off the options menu, while the Wild Cherry Tintcoat was added.
2021 Camaro Design Packages
Even though much of the information about the 2021 Chevy Camaro seems to center around a lot of features that existed from the sixth generation refresh, there are actually quite a couple upgrades available in the form of performance and aesthetic packages.
First off is the rearrangement of the RS Package, which is now available on the LT1 trim. The RS Package comes with a black bow tie badge, a decklid spoiler, and dark custom LED tail lamps. The LT1 trim also comes with the optional Redline Edition Package, which adds a black fender badge, red seat belts, and premium carpeted floor mats along with 20-inch wheels.
There are also two new packages available in the form of the Wild Cherry Design Package 1 and Wild Cherry Design Package 2. The former includes 20-inch split-spoke polished wheels with a Camaro logo on the center of the wheel caps, premium carpeted floor mats with additional logos of the Camaro, and black metallic hash stripes on the fenders.
The Wild Cherry Design Package 2 comes with everything in the Wild Cherry Design Package 1, but with some nifty and somewhat extravagant paraphernalia. This includes a ground effect, a center stripe down the car with the option of it being silver or black, carbon insert for the fuel door, and black suede interior trimming.
The Wild Cherry Design Package 1 will be available for both coupe and convertible models for all trims, save for two: the LS Coupe and the ZL1. The Wild Cherry Design Package 2 is only available for three trim variations, including the 2LT, 3LT, and 2SS trims. With all of these options for customization, the Camaro can be built to suit any personality.
SS 1LE Transmission Upgrade
We’ve discussed a lot of the similarities that the 2021 Chevy Camaro shares with previous year models, but there’s more than just a few color changes and package options added to the new model year. Powertrain modifications have also been made to Chevy’s popular sports car, specifically related to the transmission options.
One of the more significant alterations to the SS trim is the 1LE Performance Package changing the 6-speed manual transmission to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which is a fairly significant upgrade. This means that if you decide to go with any 2021 Camaro SS trim, you’ll have the package option to increase the performance with the 10-speed, much like how the Camaro ZL1 also comes standard with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Interior Changes For The 2021 Camaro
Even though the article has moved on to discuss the additions and improvements, there is still a minor setback when it comes to the interior for the 2021 model of the Chevy Camaro. While the suede-covered steering wheel and some leather trimming around the seats have remained intact, the LPO interior spectrum lighting option that was introduced as part of the 2016 model has been removed, along with the navigation upgrade kit.
However, there is an upside to the interior changes for the new model, namely with the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features. The infotainment suite is now standard for all 2021 configurations, allowing for wireless smartphone integration. This means you can conveniently listen to your favorite tunes or make use of your smartphone through the 8.0-inch built-in touchscreen on the front dash console without having to rely on using a USB cable. The 2021 Camaro, in all, has a lot to offer.
2021 Chevy Camaro Price
Yes, there’s certainly a lot that’s stayed the same with the 2021 Camaro, but some new features also exist. Also, if you were late to the party in picking up a sixth-generation model, the 2021 edition comes with most of the high-end features that were eventually added with the mid-generation refresh and all for a reasonable price.
