It will perform well off-road, especially if you choose the powerful 6.2L V8 engine, but it also has a variety of fantastic convenience and comfort-related features. While it does cost a bit more than the Custom Trail Boss, this version of the Silverado 1500 promises an amazing all-around experience.
The ZR2: The Ultimate Off-Road Truck
Although the two Trail Boss trims are great, you owe it to yourself to check out the ZR2 trim if you want the best possible off-roading performance in a Silverado 1500. It has the staggering 6.2L V8 engine with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque as standard equipment, as well as four-wheel drive with a two-speed Autotrac transfer case. A concealed dual-outlet exhaust, new front and rear steel bumpers, special skid plates, and a ZR2 Suspension Package with high-performance Multimatic DSSV dampers are ZR2 features that won’t be found on the other trims.

This addition takes your basic four-wheel drive Silverado 1500 and adds all the features you will need for some light off-roading.
The Z71 Off-Road Package provides the same off-road suspension that comes with the Trail Boss trims, along with hill descent control, skid plates, and a heavy-duty air filter. However, unlike the Trail Boss trims, trucks with the Z71 Off-Road Package do not receive the two-inch suspension lift and come with less-aggressive all-terrain tires. This means they will not be as capable of handling more challenging off-road trails. If you want a serious off-roader, you are best served by one of the three dedicated off-road trims.
A few other upgrades are also included in this package. Inside the cabin, you will find unique all-weather floor liners with the Z71 logo. Outside, there is a Chevytec spray-on bedliner to keep your truck bed protected no matter what you throw in it. If added to the LT or RST trim, the Z71 Off-Road Package also adds rear wheelhouse liners to help shield your truck body from debris.
