Buying a used vehicle is a great way to save some money, help out the environment, and get a great vehicle without losing much of your investment in it with the initial purchase. Picking the right used Chevrolet, however, can be difficult since there are so many options out there. Just trying to figure out where to start can often seem overwhelming, especially if you do not have a lot of experience or practice looking at different vehicles.
One of the best ways to get started with looking at different used Chevy vehicles is to focus on specific models that will best meet your needs. This helps narrow down what can seem like overwhelming options to something that is much more manageable. I’m not going to list specific years for these models, however, because that is a much larger topic beyond that we can go into the narrow scope of this article. Just keep in mind that more recent years of these models will cost you more money than older ones, but will also have more features and options on them – especially technology upgrades and safety features that weren’t available a decade ago.
The Chevy Cruze
There are a few different reasons to pick the Chevy Cruze, specifically if you are interested in a reliable four-door sedan with great overall features. One of the things that makes this a great used Chevrolet is that it was likely sold at a very reasonable price when it was new, which means its used price will also be quite reasonable. The Chevy Cruze does not necessarily have the most robust luxury features available on it each year in Chevrolet’s lineup, but that works to your advantage.
While something like an Impala might have a more sophisticated interior, it will also cost a lot more. The Cruze is an excellent option if you want a used Chevrolet for a first-time driver. Safety features and tech options over the years in the Cruze have been great, which means it is a solid, affordable ride that should check off all of your boxes.
The Chevy Volt
A used Chevrolet Volt is an excellent option if you want a hybrid vehicle without breaking the bank. These have historically been some of the nicest hybrids on the road and offer great functionality combined with excellent design and options. The Volt is often a bit larger than some other hybrids, so it’s a great choice if you need space for your family or friends and still want an incredible fuel economy.
Hybrid and electric vehicles are an excellent option when looking at used cars. As technology improves year-after-year, older hybrid vehicles are not considered nearly as efficient as newer models. As such, they often drop in price more than conventional vehicles, but still offer better overall fuel economy. If you want a used electric Chevrolet, then you should consider the Bolt instead, as it has been offered as a purely EV model.
The Chevy Camaro
If you are looking for a high-performance used Chevrolet, then a Camaro is a fantastic option that gives you a lot of power without beating up your wallet. In general, Camaros tend to have a lower sticker price than a Corvette from the same year. This means that when you are looking at used models, a Camaro will typically go for a lower price than a comparable Corvette.
A used Camaro is a great way to get the power and fun of a sports car without paying the price for one. While it will certainly be more expensive than a Cruze from the same year, a used model will still be much more affordable than a brand new one. If you prefer a Corvette Stingray then, by all means, go for one – just know that it will probably cost you more than a Camaro with similar options.
The Chevy Equinox
Chevrolet has offered a lot of great SUVs and crossovers over the years, and an Equinox is an excellent choice for a used Chevrolet SUV. This is the smallest model offered by Chevy, so it’s a perfect option if you want something that can fit into a more compact lifestyle. Even so, you still get plenty of seating and lots of cargo space inside a used Equinox. The smaller size also means you can usually get better gas mileage with a Chevy Equinox than from a larger model.
This is also a great option if you want an SUV but need to save some money on your purchase. Since it is smaller than something like the Tahoe, it will almost always cost you less. Chevrolet does not skimp on luxury options and great additional features on the Equinox, so it’s a fantastic choice that still offers a lot while going light on your bank account.
The Chevy Tahoe
If you are looking for a larger and more luxurious SUV, then a used Chevrolet Tahoe is an excellent choice. The Tahoe has been one of the leading models from Chevy for years, and there are a lot of fantastic used ones available. Since the Tahoe is on the larger end of the SUV spectrum, you should expect used models to be still pricier than some other options out there. Even so, a used Tahoe is a great way to get incredible luxury and sophistication in a vehicle while still saving some money and going easy on the environment by keeping an older SUV on the road.
The Chevy Suburban
For a pinnacle SUV experience from Chevy, however, you cannot beat a used Chevrolet Suburban. Depending on trim level, this can be the most expensive SUV offered by Chevy, so keep that in mind as you look at different used options. This means that a used Suburban can still be quite expensive, even compared to brand new vehicles available at a dealership.
With that in mind, a used Suburban is an excellent choice if you really want a large SUV with a massive amount of interior space for passengers and cargo. Since Suburbans are so popular for their luxury features, a lot of used models you find have only had one owner and were previously on a lease. That means they are often in excellent condition, having been well treated by the owner to make sure they upheld their terms on the lease.
The Chevy Silverado 1500
If you are interested in a pickup truck, there are quite a few different used Chevrolet options out there, but the Silverado 1500 is usually seen as the best option for the widest range of drivers. It’s a full-size truck, so you know it has plenty of power, even if it is not quite as powerful as its heavy-duty siblings. Still, a used Silverado 1500 can offer incredible functionality, performance, and reliability while still taking it easy on your pocketbook.
On the off-chance that the Silverado 1500 is not powerful enough for your needs, then take a look at a used Silverado 2500 or 3500. These are heavy-duty pickups that offer insane levels of towing capacity and maximum payloads. If you need to load up your truck with a lot of cargo or need to haul a fully-stocked trailer or camper behind you, then one of these trucks will be hard to beat. The heavy-duty models can be quite expensive when sold new, however, expect their used versions to be still rather pricey – but still less than what a new truck would set you back.
